Ammar Eloueini

The first thing that I really liked about Ammar Eloueni’s work is how different it is from anything else that I have seen. He takes an idea that he has and he uses multiple different programs to create the vision that he had. He is not afraid to try to create his vision using very different and unconventional materials. I really thought that the chair that he made out of 8 zip ties and one sheet of polycarbonate was amazing.
What I have leant from him is that you don’t have to be a master of the programs that you are using. It is simply good enough to just play with the program until you have the shape or idea that you want, until you create a happy coincidence. I believe that his work does connect to what we are doing right now because like him we to are trying to create shapes and forms that we thing look amazing. We like him do not have to follow rules of certain shapes and sizes, we have control over what we want.
After seeing his work I have begun to think more outside the box to see what I can create using my bridge space. I have also learnt that there are many different materials that we can use when trying to create our model, anything is possible.

Eloueini Lecture

Ammar Eloueini presented his various projects from throughout his career last night. There was a lot that I saw in his projects that we inpiring for this our own current project. Not only did I see what he did with the very similar tools that we have. I liked the material Polycarbonate that he worked with and I would like to maybe use that same material or a similar one in my Student Union living room project. It would provide some privacy to thsoe who use the area, but still allow for light to reach them. It also still connects them to their surroundings. I think what he said about materials and considering what they can represents for a structure is something I want to try to consider as Janice and I continue working on our project, but also in future projects.

Maria Alonso. Speaker Ammar Eloueini.

The speaker, Ammar Eloueini, had very similar design concepts to what we are working with. In his presentation, Eloueini spoke of his previous works and of his methods, showing us his progress throughout his career. There was one method that he used when designing a space that I think I’m going to implement into this project and future projects. What he did was that when he was going to renovate a place, he focused on one object; its shape, design or whatever caught his attention. After figuring out his inspiration he designed the rest of the space, based on that one certain inspiration. How I will use this for this project is I will discuss with my partner about which part of the bridge we could use to manipulate and use it throughout our design.

Ammar Eloueini also talked a lot about materials. Eloueini and his team would focus on using one type of material and they used it to the full extent. Once they used such material for one project they used it throughout other projects for years. Maybe in our project we can find a material and work with it throughout the Student Union. Eloueini’s designs are interesting because he explores all of its possibilities. He tries to understand his creations and now he tries to use it on useful areas such as the home in New Orleans. I am glad I got to see Ammar Eloueini because now I can use some of his methods.

Pepakura Help!!! ( Erika Pulido )

Virginia,

Today we printed out our model in Pepakura and found that more then half of our bridge does not have the number ID . This is making it very difficult for Lynne and I to build the model. We believe that it might be the Z command that is causing the issue. We are not sure what we should do?

Ammar Eloueini Lecture ( Erika Pulido)

After attending Ammar’s presentation I realized that his works are very much similar to what we have been working on this semester. Specially the last project that he presented, I believe is really similar to our Student Union project. The project that mostly stood out to me was the project with the chairs. I was very fascinated with the simplicity of the chair, and the ability to create numerous of different chairs with different designs. His work inspires me in the way that he is very creative even when obstacles may occur; using those obstacles he then is able to develop a new concept or a creative idea that can improve his idea. He inspires me because not only does he just dive into developing a project regardless of its success, but because he develops these creative ideas that will most-likely inspire other ideas.

Ammar Elouein

In his lecture, he focused mainly on the materials that were used in his designs.  They used software to design the basic form, and then start building models.  Some of their designs are similar to what we are doing in Modo like building the space and putting in materials.  His designs can influence on what we’re doing for the living room project because their design are simple and easy to understand.  The designs weren’t complicated, but the result came out very effective.  After his lecture, I realized that we’re trying to do too much in our design when we can have something simple that can be effective.  In addition, we know more about the materials that we can use in our design.

Lynne Tainter. Ammar Eloueini Talk

Ammar Eloueini discussed many interesting aspects of his designs and projects using polycarbonate, Corian, and other products. The forms and designs of his projects included many facets and subdivisions that are similar to the project I am doing for the Student Union bridge project. His use of deforming and reconstructing his objects into different objects will be helpful when designing a space that can be used by students in the student union. His projects were very unique and thought-provoking. I think that the different products that he used primarily polycarbonate and Corian, and how he had to test and practice with the products before he could successfully build a project was helpful advice when we have to build our models. The different forms that he created including furniture, sculpture, hanging devices, and models used different sizes or polygons and lines. Some of the projects were very complex while others were very simple. For our project, I gained many ideas about how the simplicity and cleanness of a space can often say the most about a design or project.

Ammar Eloueini Lecture

I really enjoyed Ammar's lecture the other night. The set up of the slides and lecture going throughout the history of his office was a great way to see how he evolved as a designer and how his use of different materials and techniques evolved as well. I was intrigued by the many uses of the polycarbonate and how versatile it is. The use of colors to have it light up and the way it can be taken apart to make it easy to carry and ship were some of the uses I found interesting.
Seeing what he's done has given me a new inspiration for what I would like to do as a designer. Experimenting with things has always been a fascination of mine and now having pepakura at my finger tips opens a broader door. Not only can I make spaces for people, but I can create separate pieces of art to go within them or possibly for the public.

Ashley Parise - Paragraph about Lecture

I really enjoyed the lecture yesterday and found his work different and intriguing . My favorite part of the lecture was the house he showed in New Orleans and the chairs that have the moving pattern that he made 21 chairs for display from. The house in New Orleans reminded me of a bridge and our Student Union project. He took a very different approach to elevating the house above the ground which made me think of out of the ordinary ways to create seating and spaces in the Student Union project. I also liked how he took a simple material like zip ties and used those to hold pieces together. That pushed me to start thinking of something so simple and common and using it in a completely new way. I do not yet have an idea of how I can tie this concept into my project but I am definitely thinking about it. Overall, the New Orleans house was the most remembering and inspiring for me because it was a very cool approach and outcome.

Pepakura Help

Hi,

I am having trouble loading my model into Pepakura. I've sliced it and saved it as "wavefront OBJ" file but when I load it into Pepakura it doesnt fully load and saids the program is "not responding". I have also restarted my computer several times and the same error occurs. Can someone please help.

Thanks!
Jessica

Can anyone help...

So when I slice my model it turns black. It never used to do that so I clicked reset and tried again but the model still turns black when I slice it. Does anyone know why or how to fix this??

Thanks!
